Management Board

Competent governance is crucial to running the Association. We have a Governing Management Board consisting of 9 members made up of local residents and individuals who work or have an interest in the local area. Our rules allow us to have a minimum of 7 members and a maximum of 15 members. At present, we have spaces on our Board of Management, if you are interested in joining our Board or would like more information, please contact Teresa Gallagher at the Association.

We are looking for individuals to serve as Board members who can demonstrate the following:

· Commitment to supporting the community that FPHA serves

· Experience of receiving, providing or developing high quality housing and related services and / or of being involved in community regeneration and sustainability

· Willingness to work as a member of a team which has responsibility for leading and directing FPHA’s work.

In addition, prospective members should have Local knowledge

Meetings: Due to the pandemic we started to meet virtually through zoom, but as we are easing out of this, the Association is holding "hybrid" meetings, this is where some of the Board meet in person and others join in via zoom.

The Management Board meets about 12 times a year. Meetings take place on the last Wednesday of the month from 5pm to 7pm.

In addition, members are allocated to a Sub Committee (Audit & Risk or Staffing) or to the Board of our Subsidiary, The New Tannahill Centre. These meet quarterly (NTC monthly on Monday's) and subcommittees on Wednesdays. These meetings also last up to 2 hours.

There’s also time needed to prepare for meetings by reading the papers in advance and noting anything you want to ask questions about.

Engagement with Tenants and Members:

We have events during the year in which we encourage tenants and members to tell us what they think. In addition to the Annual General Meeting of FPHA members, Board members are asked to attend the Annual Gala (last Saturday in August) and any Open Days or similar events.

Personal Development:

The Board agrees an Annual Training Plan. Much of this will be covered at the business planning events but some is shared with our local housing association neighbours, usually in an evening. Sometimes we have a one-off Training day.

Conference attendance is another way to learn but also to make links with other housing people. Attendance is voluntary but encouraged particularly for new Board members

What you get in return

As a voluntary organisation, we do not provide payment to members of the Management Board. However, Board members are not unfairly disadvantaged by their involvement with FPHA as we ensure that out of pocket expenses required to carry out the role of Board member are fully met and promptly reimbursed. Board members also get:

· Clear guidance, information and advice on their roles and responsibilities

· Formal induction to help settling in

· Clearly written and presented papers, circulated in advance of meetings

· The opportunity to use your experience, skills and knowledge for the benefit of the Association and its customers

Our Board Members are all volunteers who give their time, experience and skills to ensure the Association meets its strategic objectives which are set out in our business plan. The Board are responsible for the direction and control of the organisation. You can find the remit for members and our Sub Committees in the Associations Standing Orders.

To become a Board Member you have to be a shareholder of the Association. Members can be nominated to join the Board and if approved, can be elected on at our Annual General Meeting.

To become a shareholder of the Association just complete an application form and bring it into the office with the £1 joining fee. The Application for Membership form can be found in our Document Library. We encourage all of our tenants to become shareholders.

Meet our Board of Management

Ian Williams, Chairperson since 17/09/2019, Board Member since 11/10/2017

Ian was born in Ferguslie Park and been a community activist for 25 years. He has lived through the community's good times and bad and is excited about the new things happening in Ferguslie. In his current role as Chair of the Association, Ian takes an active part in driving the Association forward to improve the living conditions for everyone in the Ferguslie Park area.

Aidan McGrogan - Board Member since 29/6/2022.

Aidan joined the Board as a casual member in June 2022 and became a full member of the Board at our AGM ion 7 September 2022.

Following our AGM on 30 August 2023, Aidan agreed to chair the Staffing Sub-committee after being nominated by fellow board members.

Helen Glassford, Board Member since 29/11/2017

Helen spent most of her working life in Ferguslie Park and was keen to join the Board to nurture her interest in the community. Helen is also an Executive Committee Member of our subsiduary the New Tannahill Centre.

Tracey Johnstone Board Member since 7/09/2022

Tracey was nominated onto our Board and became a board member at our AGM on 7 Septmber 2022.

Laurie Kefalas, Board Member since 27/09/2021

Laurie is a housing professional and brings with her extensive housing background experience which further enchances the skill set on our Management Boad.

Louise McNicol, Board Member since 10/01/2018

Louise joined the board in January 2018 as a Co-Optee, she then became a Board Member following the AGM in September 2018. Louise has a keen interest in housing having worked in the sector since 2004 and gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Housing Studies from Stirling University in 2009. Originally working in a rural housing environment in Dumfries & Galloway, Louise is currently employed as the Technical Manager at Glen Oaks Housing Association. Louise serves as chair on our Group Audit & Risk Sub-Committee.

James Strang, Board Member since 09/09/2020

Jim was co-opted onto our Board in September 2020 and brings with him a wealth of experience, skills and knowledge from the housing sector. Jim has served on our Board before so has previous knowledge of the Association and the community.

Kirsten Ferguson - Board Member since 28/09/2022

Kirsten joined the board in 2022 and also serves on our Staffing Sub-committee.

Angela Chivers - Vice Chair since 30 August 2023, Tenant Board Member since 29 November 2022

Angela joined the board as a co-opted member in November 2022. At our Special Board Meeting on 30 August 2023 Anglea was nominated to Vice Chair.

Angela is a tenant of the Association and is very active as a volunteer in the local community working with different groups.

Our Group Structure is made up of our main board and 2 subcommittees. We also have our subsidiary the NTC Executive Committee.
